Throwback Thursday

“Throwback” Thursday is a weekly event, hosted here, that spotlights books from our past that have never truly left us.
This week’s “flashback fiction” selection is:

A big happy frog, a plump purple cat, a handsome blue horse, and a soft yellow duck--all parade across the pages of this delightful book. Children will immediately respond to Eric Carle's flat, boldly colored collages. Combined with Bill Martin's singsong text, they create unforgettable images of these endearing animals.

I don’t know about you guys, but when I was younger, Eric Carle was my hero. The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Very Busy Spider, and From Head to Toe were oh so popular with those of us who had just discovered the joys of reading. However, out of all of his books, Brown Bear, Brown Bear had always stuck with me (and obviously still does. I hope my future kids are ready for some major EC). I don’t know if it was the fact that there were so many funky animals or that they were all funky colors, but I loved it. Putting my college student hat on for a second, BB is a great book because it teaches children not only about different animals and colors but the ever important idea of asking how someone sees something from their perspective… but let’s quit that. I mean, there’s a blue horse. That’s enough. Best sellers list immediately. Jk kidding, jk kidding. But seriously, the reason I chose this exact book is because I recently purchased a plush stuffed animal version of Mister Brown Bear himself.
His name is Carlton (Get it? Eric Carle -> CARLton. Yeah? Yeah. I thought it was pretty clever) and he is my new bed buddy. Jealous :P ?

Thanks for reading!
