Just Enough To Drive Me Mad: Perigee Moon

Author: Tara Fuller
Short Summary (no spoilers):
After a horrific fire claims the life of her mother, seventeen year old Rowan Bliss finds herself in the miniscule town of Ipswich, Massachusetts. It’s here that she meets Alex, a deliciously mysterious boy who holds the key to unlocking her family’s dark secret.

As Rowan falls helplessly over the edge for Alex, the secrets that he insists on keeping refuse to be contained, and the truth that she uncovers challenges everything she has ever believed. Alex is a witch. And now he’s awakened something within her she never even knew existed. But out of all of this, the one thing Rowan won’t accept is the fact that Alex is destined to die.

Now Rowan must unearth the buried power she harbors within to escape a deadly prophecy, defy the very laws of time, and prevent the hands of fate from taking yet another person she loves.

Perigee Moon (mentioned on page 178 of my Nook) is when the moon is closest to the earth. I thought I'd start out by defining it for you because I was confused about the title. Perigee Moon the book is close to my heart.... Sorry I was trying to do an analogy thing... Onto the review.
What mood?
The beginning is really sad; I mean REALLY sad. Her mother just died, her father doesn't want to talk to her, and she's really depressed. However, when she starts to get friends and Alex (love him) shows up, the book is all mystery and romance and paranormal.
Main character – yay or nay?
Rowan is an interesting main character. In the beginning, she is very much a victim, but she sheds that label completely as the book goes on. These two different sides of her, the depressed antisocial girl and the brave loving warrior, kind of conflicted for me at the beginning. She never seemed to be able to save herself but she was more than capable of saving everyone else. But then, as I thought about it, those traits didn't conflict at all. Everyone knows that person who will fight like hell for their friends but can't seem to get themselves together. So, in conclusion, I do like Rowan. She's very realistic and it is easy to empathize with her.
Getting Over Alex:
Ohhh Alex. My baby Alex. Tall, muscular build. Dark hair and blue eyes. British (that gets major points with me. What can I say. I'm an Anglophile.) and a gentleman. Could there be anything better? Oh wait. He also has magical powers and can be a total BA and save you from anything ever and love you dearly even before he met you because he's had dreams about you and so you are his dream girl and it would be creepy if a normal guy said that but it's Alex so you're like *swoon*.
Character Fever:
Her best friend Bevin is really great. When everyone else kind of abandons Rowan, Bevin never does. She's not afraid to call Rowan on her stuff and she is always there with a shoulder to cry on. Thumbs up to Bevin!
I also found myself digging Grandma. She is hilariously awkward in all the right places and she teaches Rowan how to control and use her magical ability.
Crust factor:
This is where my warning comes in. There is an attempted rape scene and it is pretty scary, let me tell you. If that's not your cup of tea, then do not read this book.
Don’t judge a book by it’s cover:
The cover, along with the title, made me think that the moon would be mentioned more often then it was. Like I said above, I was almost 200 pages in when I found out what a perigee moon even was. Other than that, I think the cover gets the vibe of the book right. I would have liked to see Alex though, because he's my boy and I love him.
Song this reminds me of:

I've chosen "Long Shot" by Kelly Clarkson.
Recommendations:
Tara's new book Inbetween is the first book in a series and comes out August 14th. It also deals with the paranormal.
If you liked the time travel aspect, I recommend Both Sides of Time.

Future Companion Novels:
After numerous hours of research (or really just one Google search but I wanted to sound impressive), I found the answer on Ms. Fuller's very own website.
To this, let me simply say, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Why did she include a smiley face? This is not a happy thing. When I finished the book, I made a note in my Nook that I will show you now.
Sorry it's such a crappy picture but I wanted to show you that my feelings have not changed. There NEEDS to be a sequel. I don't care if it's just Rowan and Alex skipping through a meadow of flowers and life is perfect for them and la di da. I just need it. I'll be waiting

Overall Rating:
I'm giving this book 4 stars. It was a great read but there was too little mention of what a Perigee Moon actually was and it's significance. Also, it ended and she's not writing a new one and I'm going to go cry now.
